OUR STORY

The road less travelled

Our story began in the early 1980s when renowned winemaker Jeffrey Grosset embarked on a journey to craft exceptional wines that reflect the unique terroir of Clare Valley, South Australia. Jeffrey Grosset’s unconventional beginnings in winemaking saw him eschew the conventional wisdom of the time, opting instead for a path marked by experimentation, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

There are just eight staff (including two in the vineyard). Some have clocked up over 20 years with Grosset Wines and have collectively accumulated 100 years of vintage experience.

The winemaking process is gentle, uncomplicated and is never rushed. Everything is aimed at achieving the finest expression of variety and place. To avoid all inputs that threaten to compromise quality may seem obvious. Yet, to achieve this has taken decades.

A Commitment to Excellence; Crafting wines with character

At Grosset, we are dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in every aspect of winemaking. From meticulously hand-tending our vineyards to employing time-honored techniques in the cellar, we spare no effort in crafting wines that embody the purity and authenticity of the Clare Valley.

Our commitment to biodynamics and biodiversity ensures that generations will continue to enjoy the fruits of our labor, preserving the integrity of the land and the wines it yields.

Each bottle of Grosset wine is a testament to the skill and dedication of our winemaking team. With an unwavering focus on quality and expression, we carefully select only the best fruit from our estate vineyards, allowing the true character of the varietals to shine through. Whether it’s our iconic Polish Hill Riesling, our rich and elegant Gaia Cabernet Sauvignon, or any of our other acclaimed offerings, every wine bears the hallmark of Grosset’s uncompromising standards and passion for perfection.

Jeffrey’s vision was simple yet profound: “to produce wines of uncompromising quality that capture the essence of this pristine landscape.”

A Legacy of Innovation

As we look to the future, we remain committed to honoring our heritage while embracing innovation and evolution. From pioneering organic and biodynamic practices to exploring new vineyard sites and winemaking techniques, Grosset continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in Australian winemaking.

In 2000, Jeffrey and a throng of Clare Valley winemakers encouraged Australian and New Zealand winemakers to switch to screwcaps and the public, retailers and media to embrace the change. He continues to privately fund research into the subject.

It’s this pioneering spirit, coupled with an unyielding dedication to his craft, that continues to inspire us today as we carry forward his legacy of pushing boundaries and challenging the status quo in pursuit of extraordinary wines.
