Another excellent vintage for this tiny quantity, single clone riesling (110), with G, for Georgie Grosset whose bright idea it was. The G110 is subtly perfumed yet persistent, intense and powerful through the mid-palate and onto a lingering finish which is tight, ultra-dry, pure and fine. Grown and made under biodynamic certification, this wine has once again undergone extended time on lees. This encourages yeast autolysis which, combined with the distinctiveness of the clone and uniqueness of the vineyard site, contributes to its most distinctive flavour profile.

Biodynamic Rockwood Vineyard on silty loam over 800 million year old red rock; 110 clone; extended lees ageing. I love the signature exoticism captured by riesling on 800 million year old red rock, captured in pinpoint precision by the exacting fanaticism of Jeffrey Grosset. The result is at once flamboyantly floral, deeply spicy and at the same time resolutely pure in its kaffir lime and granny smith apple crunch. Fennel and anise provide an enticing alternative dimension. Red rock minerality and fine-boned acidity carry a very long finish, perfectly contrasting enticingly juicy fruit.

The 2023 G110 Riesling is water-white in the glass, and aromatically, the wine is super subtle, with wisps of saffron and turmeric alongside crushed chalk and green apple skins, white peppercorns, orange blossom and brine. In the mouth, this wine does what it always does; it seems to delicately flare into chiaroscuro. It purposefully swirls and stutters across the palate, writhes across day and night and lingers through the long, quiet finish, where you'll find cracked oyster shell, shaved fennel, beach sand and whiffs of coriander, perhaps. There's a rocky/mineral aspect that sits so nicely within the frame of the wine. It's great again this vintage.
